Why we need your input.
The State of Florida is collecting information on residents’ housing and neighborhood needs. This interactive website is an important part of improving housing choices and furthering community development in Florida’s smaller cities and rural areas.
We invite you to help inform housing and community development policy by:
- Watching a short video this project and how your contribution matters
- Sharing thoughts about your neighborhood
- Completing three short activities to help determine how housing and community development money is spent
- Taking any next steps, if you’re interested
- That’s it! Thanks for your input!

Why your input matters.
Your input is important to the development of a meaningful Consolidated Plan and Fair Housing study. It helps the state prioritize community needs, identify disparities in access to housing and neighborhoods, and informs community policy solutions from the ground up.

This is what we heard from others in the state:
“I wish the parks were nicer.”

“I love the diversity of our community.”

“The houses are really cute.”

This takes just 10-15 minutes.
Activity 1: Making Good Use of HUD Funds
For this exercise, you assume the role of community leaders in your community. You have $1 million to spend on housing and community development programs. What programs would you prioritize?

Activity 2: Looking Ahead…
Looking ahead 5 years, after you’ve made those investments, what outcomes will you hope to have achieved?
Ideas to get you started:
- People with disabilities can navigate my neighborhood better (ramps, etc)
- Workers in my community have better jobs or are better trained for growing industries
- There are more affordable rental units in my community
- Fewer people have housing in disrepair
- We have a new or improved park
- We have a new or improved senior center

Activity 3: Let’s Talk Equity!

The State of Florida is committed to affirmatively further fair housing choice as part of its investment of federal housing and community development funds. Recognizing that different tools are needed to achieve equitable access to housing, employment, and strong neighborhoods, what is most important for the state to do to further equity?
How would you further equity in your community?
